Australia is an incredible place to visit, it's a diverse country that offers something for everyone is is one of the world's best holiday destinations. If you are a party animal you can head up the East Coast, if you prefer more relaxed scenery then the West Coast and the Northern Territory would suit. The great cities aside, these are five places in Australia you shouldn't miss:-
1. The Red Centre - Known for it's bright red sands, the centre of Australia has three amazing sites to see (Uluru, The Olgas and Kings Canyon). Most visitors start with the most famous Uluru (otherwise known as Ayers Rock) here you can either climb or take the long walk round (climbing here is discouraged but many people still do). Walking is recommended because you get to see the beautiful Aboriginal rock art.
Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) is 25km from Uluru and also very impressive. It has 36 sandstone domes and covers almost 22km. If you are feeling energetic you can go for a 8km walk across the boulders. Kings Canyon which 300 metres high and overlooks Kings Creek. Like the other two it's another incredible site and there are two walks to choose from.
2. Fraser Island - Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and spreads across 1840 square km. The island is home to amazing and unusual scenery including crystal clear window lakes, a photogenic shipwreck and a variety of colourful sand dunes. Fraser island is also home to many dingos. A great way to tour the island is by a four wheel self drive tour. These tours can be brought on the mainland in Hervey Bay. Once on the island you will have two or three days to explore and camp out.
3.Byron Bay - Byron Bay is a beachside town in New South Wales. After spending time in Sydney and Brisbane, Byron Bay provides a perfect escape from city life. Byron Bay is a is very relaxing location, the local community is full of artists which gives it a creative and bohemian feel. Byron Bay is perfect to have a break as well as picking up some interesting gifts for family and friends. The coastline is also beautiful which is also great for walks and whale watching.
4. Barossa Valley - The Valley is widely known for it's fantastic wine and lush vineyards. Famous wine such as Yalumba are made here and you can see the whole process on a tour. Taking a tour is highly recommended and you'll get to visit many wineries and also great restaurants.
5. Kangaroo Island - This large island is often overlooked as a tourist destination but you should really try to make the ferry trip from Adelaide. When on the island you will find beautiful landscapes and an abundance of wildlife. Many animals live here including Albino Wallabys, blue penguins and fur seals. Take your camera because you will also find lots of colourful sand dunes, white stretches of sandy coastline and thick forests of trees.
